Scott Takes The Ranks… Introducing our new GM

We have a new General Manager at Hotel Indigo Chester.

Scott Rankin joined last month, so we thought we’d take the opportunity to find out a little bit more about the man who’s now heading up the team at our boutique hotel.

Tell us about yourself…

I’m Scott. I joined Hotel Indigo Chester from Holiday Inn Portsmouth where I was working as their Business Excellence Manager. I’ve held numerous roles within hotels – from Chef, Reception Manager, Sales manager to being a General Manager a various hotels across the UK.

What appealed to you most about Hotel Indigo Chester?

I’ve worked with several IHG hotels throughout my career, so I know what great appeal Hotel Indigos have to guests. The unique nature of each is a great selling point – for both leisure and corporate guests. Plus, Chester is a fabulous city so the opportunity to combine a great hotel in a great city was too good of an opportunity to turn down.

What kind of General Manager are you?

I like to think I’m a very balanced kind of manager. In the hospitality industry, and even more so at Hotel Indigo, staff are such a huge asset. When a guest visits our hotel, we need our teams’ passion, their local knowledge, and their personalities to really need to shine through. That only happens when they’re appreciated and respected.

What plans do you have for Hotel Indigo Chester?

I’m a believer in the concept of ‘if something’s not broken, don’t fix it’ and Hotel Indigo Chester has been functioning as a successful hotel since it opened in 2019. However, there are clearly further opportunities we can explore and deliver an even greater experience for our guests. I’m also overseeing The Forge Restaurant, which is still relatively new within the neighbourhood, so we’ll be shouting more about the fantastic food and service Mike Robinson and his team provide.

What advice would you give someone looking to get into the hospitality industry?

I’d 100% recommend it. I genuinely believe it’s one of the most rewarding industries anyone can work in. Yes, it’s hard and times, the hours can be long and sometimes unsociable, but the rewards are unrivalled. We’re here to create good experiences for our guests and knowing you’ve had a positive impact on someone’s visit – whether that’s providing great service, giving a good local recommendation, or simply putting a smile on their face – it can absolutely rub off and have a positive effect on you too.

An interesting fact about yourself?

I spent over six years volunteering as a Special Police Sergeant for the Metropolitan Police. So, between that and working in the hospitality industry for 22 years, I’ve seen some rather interesting things…!

A big welcome to Scott and he looks forward to saying hello to you next time you’re visiting. If you haven’t done so already, or want to do so again, make sure you book a stay at Hotel Indigo Chester or book a table at The Forge Restaurant.
